Quick Strategies For Managing Stress

Do you ever feel like there is too much to do to find time to manage your own stress? Here are some tools to help you manage stress in the middle of those busy times.

1. Breathe Deeply. Take one minute and focus on slow deep belly breathing. Think of your belly as a beach ball that expands and contracts when you breathe. Try to fill the beach ball completely on each breath.

2. Schedule a 15 minute " enjoyment" break. This can be as simple as having a cup of tea while sitting in your favorite place or taking a few minutes to research your next vacation on-line. Whatever it is, set aside the uninterrupted time to do one thing you enjoy.

3. Talk back to negative thoughts. When life gets hectic we often increase our sense of stress by talking negatively to ourselves. Catch the negative talk and reframe it positively. For instance, if you are stuck in traffic, take a moment to enjoy your favorite music on the radio and be grateful for the down time instead of being angry with yourself or with others on the road.
